THE NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

National Service Scheme was introduced in 1988 in this college . It is optional for the students of the college. Students who desire voluntarily to join N.S.S. are to apply in the prescribed application forms. Such application should be submitted to the programme officer. There are two N.S.S. units, one male and a female unit functioning in the college with the capacity of 50 volunteers in each unit. There is one programme officer for each unit. IMPORTANT PARTICULARS ABOUT N.S.S. Objective – The primary aim of the scheme is to enable the students to work with the people around educational campuses in order to upgrade their personality and experience through community service. Its end is the improvement of personality while service to the community is a means through which such improvement is sought to be achieved. This objective is sought to be achieved by enabling the students to : i) Understand the community in which they work. ii) Identify the needs & problems in the community in the solution of which they can be involved. iii) Develop among themselves a sense of civic responsibility. iv) Apply their education in finding practical solutions to individual & community problems. v) Develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibility. vi) Gain skill in mobilizing community participation. vii) Achieve leadership qualities and democratic attitude. viii) Develop capacity to meet emergency and natural disasters. ix) Practise National Integration. MOTTO : The motto or watchword of the N.S.S. is “Not me but You” This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the needs for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. Plans and projects are taken up periodically on Sundays and during the Puja holidays, X-mass and Summer Vacation.
